  4. Gedenket der Hungernden

    Consists of a donation card from the Shanghai Ghetto printed on behalf of the "Gedenket der Hungernden", or "Remember the Hungry", charitable organization of the Jewish community in Shanghai during WWII. One side has mimeographed text appealing to members of Shanghai's Jewish community, in German. The verso has a small printed donation form to fill out (in German), and the address of the organization (in English). Also includes an imprinted Chinese mailing stamp of Sun-Yat Sen and additional Chinese text in green.

    Negatives and corresponding prints depicting Buchenwald shortly after liberation. Includes a color print of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Buchenwald reunion.

    Consists of one postcard, dated June 10, 1942, written by Zelda (“Zina”) Alpern in Salles-Curan, Aveyron, France, to Gertrude Wolf of Rochester, NY. On the postcard, which is torn and has a missing corner, Zina asks for news and expresses her hope that Gertrude will be able to send papers to assist with her emigration.

    The records of Starosta of Częstochowa survived only partially, and include records of the financial department and partial records of the internal department.   16. Else Cheimovits Parnes papers

    Contains a handwritten document, prepared by Elsa Cheimovits (born 1925 in Velkysevlus, Czech Republic) on January 28, 1947, while she recuperated in the Renstrams Civic Hospital in Göteborg, Sweden after being liberated from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp with her sister Irene. The document records the deaths of Elsa's parents, Jeno and Zuhanna, and her siblings Eva, Elisabeth, Blanka, Frida, Mozes and Judith [Judit], whom Elsa believed all perished at Auschwitz.

    The Georg and Margarethe Weiss family papers include two passports ("Reisepass") issued in Vienna, Austria, to Georg and Margarethe Weiss and affidavits and correspondence from Louis Weiss regarding his support of Georg and Margarethe’s immigration to the United States. Louis was not related to the Weiss family. The collection also includes a diary written by Peter Weiss, Georg and Margarethe’s son, from 1938-1940.
