    The Charles Talmazan papers consist of correspondence, photographic materials, clippings, and a family tree documenting Talmazan’s experiences as a hidden child in Belgium during the Holocaust, his father and sister’s deportation to Auschwitz, his efforts to receive reparations from the German and Belgian governments, and his participation in the erection of a monument in Cornemont, Belgium.

    The Franz Werner Krebs papers consist of photocopies and photographs of biographical materials and subject files documenting the Krebs family, their flight from Breslau to England in 1938 and 1939, their return to Germany after the war, and Franz Werner Krebs’ immigration to America in 1956. Biographical materials primarily include photocopies and photographs of identification papers, school records, a birth certificate, and a marriage certificate documenting Franz Werner Krebs, his registration in England, his architectural education in Germany, and his first marriage.   5. Jeanne Rothschild collection

    Contains correspondence and documents relating to the donor's father's internment in Camp Gurs and Les Milles: drawings made by Gurs inmates in 1939; documentation of attempts to obtain visas; photographs taken by donor's husband while in Germany with the U.S. Army, some from Dachau taken two days after liberation; documents from the Red Cross International Tracing Service concerning the donor's mother's twin sister and older brother; and a sound cassette of the donor's oral testimony.

  9. Herman F. Reissig memorandum

    The Herman F. Reissig memorandum, dated May 15, 1941, describes the SS Alsina’s departure from Marseille in January 1941 carrying more than 500 refugees en route to the United States and Latin America, its detention in Dakar by the Vichy government, Reissig’s unsuccessful efforts to work with the Vichy, British, and American governments to find a solution for the refugees, and cables received from refugees aboard the Alsina describing their confusion and anxiety.

  10. Beruh family correspondence

    The Beruh family correspondence comprises letters written between members of the Beruh family beginning after Gerda and Sonja’s transport to England in 1939 until Gerda and her mother, Nechama were reunited in 1945. The bulk of the letters are written by Gerda to her mother, though many letters include notes from Sonja as well. Three letters to the sisters from their father, Yaakov are also included. A small series of photographs are also included in this collection. Images include Gerda as a teenage girl and two images of groups of children.

  11. Gefangnenbuch, Strafgefaengnis Wolfenbuetel

    Photocopies of oversize pages of a prisoner register from Wolfenbuetel Prison in Lower Saxony where the Jewish deportees from the region (Braunschweig, Luenburg, etc.) were registered by the Gestapo and held November 10-11, 1938. There are also some arrests from before and after Kristallnacht listed.

  12. Recollections from the Holocaust odyssey to freedom

    Contains information regarding Holocaust experiences from Wuppertal (Elberfeld) Germany,1933; escaping to Belgium in 1938; after Germany invaded Belgium, Henry Berg [donor] and his family fled to France in 1940 only to return to Brussels, where the family lived in hiding for the rest of the war.

  13. Alexander Paspa collection

    Contains information regarding a request for medicine; a notification of receiving a package; and a request for certain foods. Three original postcards dated October 23, 1944, 1942, and July 31, 1942, all with English translations. All of the postcards were mailed to Ella Paspa in Zagreb, Croatia.

    The memoir contains information regarding donor's grandmother's, Ilse Armanski Parker, Holocaust related experiences in Danzig.

  16. Paula Scwamenau Eisenhammer memoir

    Consists of one bound memoir, 59 pages, entitled "Paula" by Paula Scwamenau Eisenhammer, originally of Sniatyn. In the memoir, she describes growing up with family in Sniatyn and Kolomyja, life in the Kolomyja ghetto, a failed attempt to escape to Romania, and escaping from a moving deportation train outside of Majdanek. She returned to Kolomyja and obtained Aryan papers. In the fall of 1942, she traveled to Germany as a forced laborer, hiding her Jewish identity. She was liberated in 1945 and was able to emigrate to the United States in January 1947.

  17. Einsatzgruppen in Polen

    Contains information regarding the administrative aspect of the Einsatzgruppen. The report spans from September 1939 to through the year 1940. The Zentrale Stelle der Landesjustizverwaltungen, Ludwigsburg materials are from file 172/58.
