Goebbels at a podium announcing Leni Riefenstahl as the winner of the 1934 Film Prize for her film Triumph of the Will.     Session of the Reichstag in Nuremberg on 9/15/35. Hitler speaks from a podium about the situation in Memel. He speaks of the mistreatment of the ethnic Germans and that their only crime is being German and wanting to remain German. Memel was annexed to Lithuania in 1923. Hitler wanted Memel and its ethnic German population to be reincorporated into the Reich. The ethnic Germans, headed by Dr. Ernst Neumann, became dominant in local politics and most of the Lithuanian and Jewish population fled the territory. Memel was annexed to Germany in March 1939.

  20. Helene Mayer fencing for Germany at Olympic games

    Half-Jewish athlete Helene Mayer fencing for Germany. Mayer was the only Jewish athlete who represented Germany, and she was allowed to do so only under the pressure of international opinion. She won a silver medal in the individual foil event and gave the Nazi salute from the podium. After the Olympics she returned to the United States, where she had been living. Schacherer-Elek, who won gold, and Preiss, who won bronze, were also part Jewish. Mayer is the tall blond fencer.
