  3. Yale Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies

    The Fortunoff Archive consists of testimonies of willing individuals with first-hand experience of the Nazi persecutions, including those who were in hiding, survivors, bystanders, resistants, and liberators. Testimonies were recorded in whatever language the witness preferred, and range in length from 30 minutes to over 40 hours (recorded over several sessions).

    • A website and an application for smartphones containing information for approximately 125 buildings, all of which were built by Jewish owners during the reconstruction of Thessaloniki in the aftermath of the Great Fire of 1917.

    The project includes an exhibition of archival material, applications for smartphones (iOS and Android) and a dedicated website. The project explores the conditions in Thessaloniki’s commercial center following the redevelopment and redistribution of land that took place in the 1920s, which resulted in the destruction of the traditional urban fabric of Jewish residential districts that had coexisted with commercial activities for centuries.
