  1. Under the heels of the Nazis

    Testimony, typescript (presumably unpublished), bound, 336 pages, undated but compiled in early 1990s, by survivor (Sam Seltzer) originally from Poland (Upper Silesia), but living in Detroit area.

    Letter, photocopied, addressed to Louis Schubert of Cleveland, OH, from Chaim Schubert of Lwow (postmarked in Komarno, USSR), from early June 1941 (when Soviets still occupied Eastern Poland and Ruthenia, as that would be where Komarno would be). Letter in Yiddish, but not in Hebrew script.

Recounts her experiences in Cologne, Germany; her engagement to her husband (postponed after he was arrested following Kristallnacht); escape to Holland; internment at Westerbork after German occupation; and deportation to Theresienstadt.

  10. Susan Kolker and family papers

    Contains correspondence between Philip Levin, of Baltimore, and his cousins Margarete and Anna in Berlin, as well as another cousin in New York, Sal Reinhart, all related to their efforts to obtain visas for Margarete and Anna to immigrate, dated 1938-1939. Includes one pre-WWI postcard of Berlin, as well as a photo of Margarete Reinhart from 1900.

  11. Proof of Ancestry Pass

    The collection consists of a proof of ancestry pass (Ahnenpass). The proof of ancestry pass was used to prove "Aryan" ancestry, as required by German law after 1933. The pass included explanations about the National Socialist racial ideology and a genealogical chart, which summarized the holder's ancestry for previous five generations.

  12. The Story of Berta and Freddy Fischel

    Typescript, 5 pages, with separate title page, "Surviving: The Story of Berta and Freddy Fischel," by Sonia Pressman Fuentes. The author (Fuentes) was a cousin of Freddy Fischel, and she wrote up this narrative after interviewing the Fischels in 1975 and 1991.

Also includes two books: "The Fighting Jew" from the Committee for a Jewish Army of stateless and Palestinian Jews and "The Battle for Jerusalem" by Pierre van Paassen.

  17. Roman and Ann Mandel collection

    Documents, identification, for Estera Schwimmer (Szwymer) and Roman Mandel, post-war Germany, documenting Schwimmer's disabilities caused by treatment in concentration camps, birth certificates, immunization documents, and others. Also has notebook with news clippings from German publications during the war, likely compiled by German schoolboy with name on front cover, scratched out and replaced with Mandel's name.

  18. Susan Toth collection

    Consists of a copyprint and a copy of a document regarding the Bor forced labor camp in Serbia. Includes a photograph of a group of men and a list dated 1944 of thirteen men who were in a forced labor commando at Bor. The copy of the list was notarized in Timisoara, Romania, in 1944.

    The Majerowicz family papers contain documents primarily relating to Arthur and Marie Majerowicz, and their son Kurt. The documents pertaining to Arthur and Marie are mainly identification documents, such as birth, death, and marriage certificates, Arthur’s employment and education history, immigration documents and membership cards. The items relating to Kurt come from his time while interned at Westerbork, and include birthday and postcards he sent to family members, a letter giving power of attorney to his father, and information requests concerning Kurt’s death at Buchenwald.
