  1. Gusen liberation photographs

    Consists of 12 photographs taken after the liberation of the Gusen concentration camp. The photographs depict the burial of corpses in mass graves, the burning of barracks, a soldier standing in front of the sign for the Gusen cemetery, and the painted corpse of former commandant Franz Ziereis impaled on a barbed wire fence.

  2. Frank J. Sawyer photographs

    Consists of seven photographs of a German military unit traveling on the Eastern front. Includes a photograph of a burning building, of captured prisoners of war, of supply trucks, and of three Jews who were hung by the side of the road. The photographs are captioned by a member of the unit, and the captions indicate that they were taken near Smolensk (Russia) and possibly Chernihiv (Ukraine).

  3. Henry Weil testimony

    Consists of one testimony, four pages, written by Henry Weil in 1995 (and revised in 2001.) In the testimony, Weil describes his experiences in the Polish Army, in Kraków, Lwow, the Wolbrom ghetto, and the Stalowa Wola forced labor camp. After escaping forced labor and returning to Kraków, he was sent to Płaszów where he worked for the Schindler Emaillewaren Fabrik.   4. "Parcours"

    Consists of one typed memoir, approximately 30 pages, entitled "Parcours," written in November 2012 by Pierre Saragoussi. In the memoir, Mr. Saragoussi describes his family's pre-war lives in Paris. During the war, he and his sister were cared for by the Caron, Guyollot, and Namias families, who hid the children as Catholics in Appoigny, France, during the war.

  5. Dr. George Mandl papers

    This collection relates to a dentist and physician who, due to property laws in Hungary and increased anti-Semitism in Vienna, pursued his profession in Italy. After the passage of Italian racial laws in 1938, he left a successful practice in Italy and, in 1941, gained entry to the United States, where he reestablished himself as a traditional family doctor in Bethel, Connecticut.     Consists of post-war letters by Dr. Hans Stück, testimonies by Allied military personnel and Holocaust survivors about Dr. Stück's pre-war and wartime activities, and photographs of the Stück family. The letters and testimonies describe how Dr. Stück, though nominally a member of the Nazi Party, defended Jews and Jehovah's Witnesses in court, arranged for the removal of Jews from Buchenwald to places which were relatively safer, and facilitated correspondence between concentration camp prisoners and the outside world.     Consists of original pre-war, wartime, and post-war documents, restitution paperwork, and photographs related to the life and Holocaust experiences of Walter Kamlet, originally of Berlin, Germany.     Certificate of Identity for Traveller (Certificat d'Identit et de voyage), issued to Valeriu and Eva Gerson Marcu, September 30, 1940. Booklet format: typewritten form with handwritten entries, photographs of bearers, contains entry, exit and transit visas; issued by Rumanian consulate at Bziers, France; illegible signature; valid through September 30, 1941.   16. Tombstone fragment recovered from a destroyed Jewish cemetery by a Holocaust survivor

    Tombstone fragment with engraved Hebrew text recovered long after the war by William (formerly Wolf) Ungar from the Jewish cemetery in Rimaliv, Tarnopol District, Ukraine, formerly eastern Poland. Wolf was mobilized into the Polish Army when Germany invaded in September 1939. He was wounded, captured, released, and then returned to Lwow (Lviv, Ukraine), now under Soviet control.
