  3. Mendel Awerbuch papers

    Consists of two identification documents for Mendel Awerbuch (also spelled Averbuch), one from the Polish Consulate in Brussels confirming his Polish citizenship, and the other from the town of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, permitting Awerbuch to stay in that town and confirming he had formerly been a prisoner at Buchenwald, both documents dated 1945. Includes four photographs of men and women, including Awerbuch, on a street in post-war Belgium; some wearing old concentration camp uniforms. Also includes passport-sized photos of a different man, with addresses in Paris and in Israel.

  4. Charles Jordan case (ÚDV-76/VvK-95). Investigation of Charles Jordan's death by the Office of the Documentation and Investigation of the Crimes of Communism (ÚDV)

    Consists of the records of the investigation of the death of Charles Jordan, the executive vice-chairman of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, who was found drowned in Prague’s Vltava River on August 20, 1967.

    Contains cables and reports exchanged between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and overseas embassies and consulates regarding how to deal with Jewish refugees.     The Joseph and Josie Peretz papers comprise documents and photographs concerning Joseph and Josie Peretz, a Jewish couple living in Antwerp, Belgian who survived the Holocaust. Joseph, after being released as a prisoner of war with the Belgian army was deported to a labor camp in northern France and escaped after procuring false French papers, while Josie, a Polish-born Jew, lived with a couple in Tourcoing, France under a false identity.     SA [Sturmabteilung] uniformed toy soldier manufactured by O. & M. Hausser in Ludwigsburg, Germany, between 1930 and 1943. It was purchased by Hans Pauli in Nuremberg, Germany, at an unknown date before 1991. Hausser made realistic toy soldiers and figurines to scale from a trademarked mixture called Elastolin. During the 1930s, figurine sets accurately representing NSDAP (Nazi Party) leaders and organizations were popular collectibles.     Consists of 53 photographs from the collection of Preston Hill, a member of the United States Third Army, who participated in the liberation of Mauthausen.
