  12. Bergmann family: Internment letters

    This collection contains letters sent by Jewish refugee Dr Walter Manfred ('Fred') Bergmann, a medical surgeon, to his wife Ruth Bergmann, first from an internment camp in Huyton, Liverpool and then, after transfer of the camp, from Douglas on the Isle of Man (1687/1-41). (See also transcripts and translations of letters 1687/14-41 (1687/2).) There is only one letter written by Ruth Bergmann to her husband.     The documents in this collection offer an insight into the day to day lives of the inmates of the Kitchener Camp for refugees near Sandwich at Richborough, Kent in 1939. This collection comprises 4 separate deposits.     This collection of copy correspondence documents the experiences of a German Jewish refugee, Frederick Sittner, whilst held in Dixon's Interment Camp, Paignton, Devon.
