    Knapsack carried by Ruth Berkowicz when she was fleeing from Warsaw, Poland, to Japan during the Holocaust.

  2. German passport issued to Charlotte Hartmann

    Consists of a German passport ("Reisepass") issued to Charlotte Hartmann of Vienna on 19 September 1938. Charlotte's son, Paul (1933-), is also registered on this same passport. Visas stamped inside the passport indicate that the Hartmanns arrived in Shanghai in 1939.

  3. Salomon Pfeffer papers

    The Salomon Pfeffer papers consists of a Military Government Residence Certificate for Salomon Pfeffer, dated August 7, 1945; an image of Salomon Pfeffer taken in fromt of the Landsberg hospital in 1949; and 1 roll of negatives of an unidentified concentration camp taken by Salomon Pfeffer.

  4. Caribbean internment camp envelopes

    Two empty envelopes, sent by internees in camps for European refugees in the Caribbean during World War II. One envelope, with illegible postmark, was sent by Ruchel Nayberg from Gibraltar Camp 2, in Jamaica, British West Indies, addressed to Michel Nayberg care of Mr. Bidermann's bookstore in New York. The second envelope, postmarked May 1945, was sent from Heinrich Hauser, at Camp Guatemala, Bonaire, Netherlands West Indies, addressed to Olaf Domnauer in Paterson, New Jersey. Both envelopes show evidence of having been opened and examined by censors.

    Contains digital reproductions of lists of deported persons of Judeo-Spanish ancestry who were deported from France. These are provisional lists and include information forms, some with photographs, on individuals, as well as people names found on lists at the Spanish Consulate in Paris, 1940.

    Album of cloth photographs of film stars with biographies brought with Ernest Fiedler when he left Nazi Germany with his family in 1938. He later served in the United States Army Counterintelligence Corps.

  8. Lt. Col. George R. Snyder collection

    The collection primarily consists of postwar photographs taken between 1945 and 1947 by Lt. Col. George R. Snyder documenting the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp, Landsberg prison, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Subjects include the Camp New Orleans, German and Polish POWs, refugees, landscapes, and destroyed buildings and towns. Also included is his passport and letters from George to his mother Louise Snyder, his son James, and his wife. The collection also includes a map of Munich.
