  1. Enslein family collection

    Contains photographs, documents and correspondence illustrating the experiences of Jakob Enslein and his wife, Margarete Einstein Enslei, and their two children Kurt and Hans Gerd [donor, b. 1929]. Gerd was born in Cologne, Germany, and in 1932 his parents relocated the family first to Belgium then in 1933 to France, first to Paris and then Collias, Nimes and Perigaux, before eventually fleeing through Spain and arriving in the United States in early May 1941.

  2. David Finck collection

    The David Finck collection includes a letter addressed to David Finck, donor’s father, from Albert Einstein. The letter expresses Albert Einstein’s gratitude for Mr. Finck’s “work…[he] had undertaken on behalf of the [Jewish] refugees during Dedication Week…” dated June 10, 1939, written on Einstein’s personal stationary to Mr. Finck, who was a life-long supporter and advocate of Jewish causes.

  3. Rella Hudes Adler papers

    1. Rella Adler collection

    Consists of pre-war photographs of Isaac, Klara, Siegmund, and Rella Hudes of Vienna, Austria, as well as wartime photographs of Rella Hudes, who spent the war living with a Protestant family, the Adamses, of Sheffield, England. Included also is one letter, 1947, from the Jewish Refugee Committee regarding the deaths of Siegmund and Klara Hudes.

    1. Shula Hamilton collection

    Contains a photograph as well as a letter and envelope (both laminated), addressed from Enrique (Herszek) Kagan, a Jewish refugee in Argentina, to his mother, Feiga Kagan, in Ostrolenka, Poland, sent August 29, 1939, but returned to Mr. Kagan in Argentina. The envelope contains a postmark from the German "Devisenschutz Kommando" in Warsaw.

  6. Reuben family papers

    Contains correspondence and forms related to Mrs. E. Reubens, of Cardiff, Wales, and her efforts to assist Jewish displaced persons at the Bergen-Belsen refugee camp, 1945-1946. Includes pre-war correspondence regarding her involvement in Jewish organizations in Britain that sought to assist German-Jewish refugees, dated 1933-1938.

  7. Ketubah from Deggendorf displaced persons camp

    One ketubah, recording the wedding of Moshe Wasserman and Rachel Landa, at the Deggendorf displaced persons camp, 20 October 1945. Text in Hebrew, with ink stamp from "Jewish Committee, D.P. Camp 7, Deggendorf." The groom is listed as being the son of Meir Wasserman, and the bride as being the daughter of Mordechai Landa, with witnesses Mendel Gorski and Meir Blumshtayn present, and Rabbi Refael ben Yehudah Halevi officiating.

  8. Jewish survivors in Yugoslavia photographs

    Collection of photographs depicting groups of Jewish Holocaust survivors in Yugoslavia after World War II. Includes images of survivors standing near empty rail cars that had transported Jews to the camps, as well as photos taken on the train tracks; also includes large group photo of refugees with a flag reading "Lochamei Ha Ghetaot' in Hebrew characters

    Very short clip from the film "Helfende Haende" Little kids in courtyard. CU, delightful faces of children, all very serious (2-5 year olds). Shots of family moving into a home.   11. Moshe Aurbach photograph collection

    The collection consists of 22 photographs documenting the life and experiences of Moshe Aurbach and his family in Będzin, Poland, before, during, and after the Holocaust as well as his time spent in Gersfeld displaced persons camp near Fulda, Germany, after World War II.

  12. Chaim Ben Cyjon Cale photograph collection

    The collection consists of a photograph of Chaim Ben Cyjon Cale donor in Łódź, Poland, before World War II and a photograph of Holocaust survivors, Cale among them, at the Bad Nauheim displaced persons camp in Germany after the war.

  13. Leszner family collection

    Collection of French newspaper and magazine pages saved by Julius and Margaret Leszner (donor's parents) during WWII. Some of the pages include their daughter Liliane's birth announcement, a photograph of Margaret Leszner and other refugees from Luxembourg heading to France, an announcement searching for Margaret Leszner posted by her husband, along with other pages saved by the Leszners. Julius survived in hiding, while Margaret and Liliane survived posing as Catholics.

  15. Lapel pin owned by a German Jewish emigre

    1. Sidney Lindenheim family collection

    Lapel pin that belonged to Sidney Lindenheim of Vienna, Austria, who, at age fifteen, left for the United States in March 1939. His parents Eva and Jacob arrived in February 1940.
