There are files of writ cases and tutelary cases in the Civil Department (e.g. applications for guardianship of a minor).

    Contains correspondence sent and received by Alfred Einstein (donor’s grandfather), co-owner of “La Tribune Juive” Journal in Strasbourg, France; dated 1935-1936.

  4. Shutters

    Pair of shutters from Taize, France, from the house in which between 1940 and 1942 Brother Roger, founder of the Communaute de Taize, hid refugees including Jews. The shutters served as a sign indicating to the refugees after police visits to the premises, the point at which the refugees could come back to the house without danger.

    This collection contains records relating to the occupation, 1940-45, the concentration camp Theresienstadt, notes and correspondence, 1928-75, as well as personal memories.

  8. Photograph of Yishuv parachutists

    A group photograph of 21 people, 12 parachutists from the Yishuv, about six months before they were parachuted into occupied Europe. The paratroopers are identified by numbers on the photograph and the names index on the back of the photograph. Photographed on April 23, 1944. The names on the back are on a sticker affixed to the back of the photo, on the back side are glue residues from an album in which the photograph was glued.

    Contains a letter of protection issued to three members of the Herczog family; prepared by Alberto Carlos de Liz-Texeira Branquinho of the Portuguese consulate in Budapest, dated August 24, 1944, with his stamped signature and the endorsement of as Consulado de Portugal em Budapes; three photos of bearers affixed.

    The collection consists of photographs primarily depicting Nuremberg, Germany in 1936-1938 including Nazi rallies and party officials and the aftermath of Kristallnacht. Depictions of Nazi party members include Julius Streicher, Heinrich Himmler, Hermann Göring, Rudolph Hess, and Joseph Goebbels. Post-Kristallnacht photographs include depictions of crowds, the destruction of a synagogue, SA men, and a Jewish boy being taken away.     The collection documents the World War II-era and post-war experiences of German Luftwaffe fighter pilot Heinz Dieter Menge, who was a prisoner-of-war in Australia from 1941-1947 and later immigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Included is biographical material, correspondence, clippings, immigration documents, two guest books with personal inscriptions and signatures by Menge's guests from the 1950s to 2000s, and photographs.     Film Projector “Olympia” projector manufactured by “Kinotechnische Werkstätten” or Cinematographic Workshop Walter Knetsch in Breslau, Germany, a company that was established in 1919. Also included are a heater, three bulbs and the box that contained the projector and the above-named parts.

  14. Scroll

    Scroll given to Kaiser Wilhelm and his wife on the occasion of their Silver wedding anniversary by The Central Committee of the Zionist Organization of Germany in Berlin. Discovered after the war by Soviet Army Sergeant Marc Shapiro, one of the first to reach Hitler's bunker, who discovered the scroll in the Reich Chancellery.

  15. Szklaniewicz family collection

    Contains correspondence and postcards from Aaron Lazar and Manya Szklaniewicz [donor's grandparents] in the Warsaw ghetto to their son Naftali Szklaniewicz (Sklan) [donor's father] and also to Moritz Hanemann in Amsterdam and London. Also includes translations of the letters.

  16. Marshall W. Minard photographs

    The Marshall W. Minard photographs consist of 14 photographic prints and postcards documenting the Buchenwald concentration camp immediately following liberation and the Dachau death train. The Buchenwald photographs are captioned “Buchenwald Stalag” on the back. The images depict survivors, victims, skin with tattoos, exterior and interior of buildings, an effigy of Hitler, and American soldiers. The Dachau photographs depict victims inside and next to the open railcars of the Dachau death train.

    Consists of handwritten ledgers relating to the trials of French citizens accused of serious collaborationist crimes: policemen, police inspectors and commissioners who were part of the Special Brigades 1 and 2 responsible for tracking down "terrorists," Communists and Jews, and others. French citizens were accused of espionage, treason and furthering the cause of the enemy. The handwritten ledgers contain a summary of each case tried by this court in chronological order, from October 17, 1944 to January 31, 1951 (File of May 1948 is missing.)
