Abstract

Videotape testimony of Tzvi K., who was born in Jazłowiec, Poland (presently Pomortsy, Ukraine) in 1929. He recalls younger twin siblings; attending Polish school and cheder; antisemitic harassment; Soviet occupation in 1939; German invasion; forced evacuation to Zolotyy Potik; returning home a few months later; his father's death from typhus; ghettoization in Buchach; forced labor in Borki Wielkic; escaping; returning to Buchach; escaping to the forest in a group, including his mother and siblings; separation from his mother and brother; hiding in a village; returning to Buchach; learning everyone else in their group had been shot; retrieving the corpses, including his mother and brother; hiding in a bunker during a mass killing; moving to Tluste (presently Tovste) with his sister; slave labor at a farm; hearing shooting from a mass killing that included his sister; assistance from a German overseer; escaping another mass killing; liberation by Soviet troops; being wounded in a German attack; transfer to Chortkiv; living in an orphanage for several weeks; traveling to Gliwice with assistance from the Jewish brigade; transfer to Föhrenwald displaced persons camp; emigration to Palestine via Marseille in 1947; interdiction by the British; incarceration on Cyprus for one year; and marriage to a survivor in 1955. Mr. K. discusses the impact of his experiences on raising his children, and recently visiting Ukraine with his daughter.
