Moshe G. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Moshe G., who was born in Borșa, Romania in 1925, the ninth of ten children. He recounts his family's orthodoxy; attending cheder; some of his siblings' emigrating to Palestine in the 1930s; Hungarian occupation in 1940; forced labor clearing snow from roads; German invasion in 1944; deportation on foot to the Vișeu de Sus ghetto; his father crying when he was forced to shave his beard; deportation to Birkenau; separation from his parents and two sisters (he never saw them again); transfer to Auschwitz, then Lagisza; slave labor building a factory; transfer to Jaworzno; slave labor in a coal mine; assistance from prisoners when he broke his leg; hospitalization; Allied bombings; remaining behind the evacuation due to his broken leg; liberation by Soviet troops; returning home; reunion with one brother; emigration to Israel; military service; and a two-year hospitalization for tuberculosis resulting from his camp experiences. Mr. G. notes that when he arrived in Israel, he was made to feel ashamed of being in concentration camps, and lack of understanding and interest in his experiences.
