Fiszel G. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of Fiszel G., who was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1918. He recalls starting work at age ten; German invasion; fleeing with his brother to Bia?ystok; returning home; ghettoization; forced labor; deportations, including his parents and three sisters; constructing a bunker; obtaining weapons; the ghetto uprising; capture and deportation to Majdanek with his brother; separation from his brother (he never saw him again); public hangings; transfer to Auschwitz/Birkenau, then to Jaworzno; slave labor in a mine; obtaining extra food and sharing it with other prisoners; the death march in January 1945; being shot while escaping with others; walking to Soviet-occupied Cze?stochowa; hospitalization; returning to Warsaw; living in Praga; fleeing to Germany due to antisemitic violence; meeting his future wife in Munich; living in Regensburg displaced persons camp; marriage; illegal entry to Palestine; internment by the British; and traveling through Paris and Sa?o Paulo to Argentina in June 1947. Mr. G. discusses establishing his business and sharing his experiences with others. He shows photographs.
