Abstract

Videotape testimony of Luisa D., who was born in W?odawa, Poland in 1936. She recounts her father's emigration to Bolivia in 1939; German invasion; fleeing with her mother and older brother to Bia?a Podlaska; living in a ghetto; smuggling food with her brother; his death; hiding in an attic with other Jews during deportations; discovery; escaping into the forest with her mother; living with Jewish, then Russian partisans; her mother's refusal to go to Moscow without her; following the front to Lublin where they were liberated; their journey to a displaced persons camp in Munich; contacting her father; traveling to Paris with assistance from the Joint; and emigrating to Bolivia. Mrs. D. discusses her wonder at being free from persecution upon arrival in Bolivia; frequent nightmares; the vividness of some memories and loss of others; and not sharing her experiences with others, whom she believes are not interested, but sharing them with her family.
