Morris J. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of Morris J., who was born in Wielun?, Poland in 1925. He recalls his close, extended family; attending Hebrew and public school; concern about events in Germany; moving with his mother and siblings to Zelo?w in 1939; German invasion; returning to Wielun?; antisemitic regulations; confiscation of their apartment; hiding during round-ups; his mother's and sister's arrest in April 1942 (he never saw them again); hiding with family members and a non-Jew; round-up with his two brothers and father in August; their escape and capture; another escape; their flight to the Cze?stochowa ghetto; hiding with his brothers, father, and other Jews during the ghetto's liquidation; moving into Cze?stochowa's small ghetto; forced labor; their transfer to Skarz?ysko-Kamienna in January 1942; beatings and public hangings; their transfer to Cze?stochowa; his father's deportation; escape with his brothers; liberation by Soviet troops in January 1945; returning to Wielun?; reunion with their father; moving to Wa?brzych; traveling with his father to Germany; living in Marktredwitz; marriage; and emigration to the United States. Mr. J. discusses the close relationship between the brothers and their families. He shows photographs.
