Hela F. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of Hela F., who was born in Ludmir, Russia (presently Volodymyr-Volyns?kyi?, Ukraine) in 1913, one of six children. She recalls her marriage; her son's birth; Soviet occupation; German invasion; transfer to a ghetto; her father's death; separation from her mother; hiding with others during a round-up; leaving to find water for her son; returning to find everyone gone; learning they had been shot; escaping; learning of the mass grave; hiding with a Polish woman in the country; assuming a Polish name; obtaining food and hiding places for a friend and a cousin; hiding with a relative of the Polish woman; helping her friend in hiding; liberation by Soviet troops; traveling to Che?m; returning to her hometown; reunion with her cousins; living in Schlachtensee displaced persons camp in Germany, then Munich; emigration to the United States; remarriage to a survivor; the birth of twin daughters; her husband's death; visits to Israel; and continuing relations with those who hid her. Mrs. F. shows family photographs.
