Zvi S. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of Zvi S., who was born in Komaro?w, Poland in 1931 one of nine children. He recalls German invasion; the murder of a friend; the outpouring of mourning at the funeral which still haunts him; killings whenever Germans entered town; his family hiding; ghettoization; digging a bunker under their room; hiding when Germans came; being attacked by a German dog; hiding with his family during the final liquidation; escaping one at a time; meeting one brother, one sister, and his father in the woods (the rest of the family was killed); hiding in a village; receiving food from Poles who knew his father; living in a cave from October 1942 to spring 1943; his sister and father being killed when going for food; hiding for five months in a storage building of Polish friends who did not know they were there; building a bunker under a storage pit; leaving when discovered; hiding in many places; separating from his brother; liberation by Soviet troops; hospitalization in Zamos?c? with his brother; his brother's marriage; fleeing to Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp; preparing for emigration to Palestine in Blankenese; assistance from the Joint and the Jewish brigade; and arrival in Palestine in April 1946. Mr. S. discusses recurring nightmares, his education, and law career.
