Dov B. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of Dov B., who was born in Cze?stochowa, Poland in 1914, the youngest of three children. Mr. B. recounts attending school; antisemitic violence; participation in Hashomer Hatzair; his brother's emigration to Palestine in 1932; attending university in Warsaw; moving to a hachsharah; returning home due to illness; German invasion; fleeing with his girlfriend; returning; ghettoization; contact with the Judenrat; his sister's round-up and deportation; living on a kibbutz in the "small ghetto"; contact with Jewish resistance leaders from Warsaw, like Arye Wilner; helping to organize the Jewish Fighting Organization (ZOB) with Tossia Altman, among others; Germans killing Jewish hostages after a resistance action; missions outside the ghetto; conflicts with the Judenrat and Jewish police; building bunkers; an escapee from Treblinka relating he had seen Mr. B.'s wife; he and another underground member establishing a base in a nearby forest; living on the farm of a Polish family; destroying telephone wires; others from the ghetto joining them; returning to meet with the ZOB, then back to the Polish farm; more fighters joining him; contact with hostile Polish partisans; cooperating with a leftist partisan group; learning the ghetto had been liquidated; forming a partisan group; building a bunker; many deaths from an attack by Polish partisans; contacts with the Warsaw ghetto underground, including Tossia Altman; two members of his group joining a Polish Communist partisan group; killing a former ghetto policeman and suspected collaborator; and a Communist partisan group enlisting their help to fight the Germans.
