Abstract
Videotape testimony of Margit W., who was born in Zlatni?ky, Czechoslovakia in 1912. She recalls her family moving to Trenc?i?n; attending religious and technical schools; learning to sew; her marriage in 1934; her son's birth in 1937; anti-Jewish measures; her husband's forced transfer to a nearby town and eventual deportation (she never saw him again); forced labor as a seamstress in Nova?ky, where she could keep her son; and avoiding a transport through an influential acquaintance. She describes sending her son to her parents, who went into the mountains; fleeing to the mountains herself; heavy bombardment; staying with a family in Motyc?ky; deportation to Ravensbru?ck; hearing of the murders of her parents by Germans and that her sister had her son; camp conditions; transfer to Bergen-Belsen in early 1945; more severe conditions; being bitten by a dog; wanting to live because of her son; and liberation by British forces. Mrs. W. recounts recovering from typhus from April to August; travel to Prague; reunion with her son; waiting for her husband, who did not return; her marriage in 1947; her daughter's birth in 1948; emigration to Palestine; and a recent trip to Czechoslovakia with her son.
