Henni S. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Henni S., who was born in Dobromil?, Austro-Hungarian Monarchy (now Ukraine), in 1906. Mrs. S. tells of her family's move to Holland in 1921; her marriage during a visit to Przemys?l, Poland; the birth of her son in 1929; separation from her husband and son (both of whom she never saw again) when the war began while she was visiting her family in 1939; leaving Brussels on the last train to Paris in May 1940; fleeing to Marseille; living in Italian-occupied Barcelonnette for a year; and paying a guide to take her and others into Switzerland. She relates capture and incarceration at the border; her release and return to Barcelonnette; Italian capitulation; walking over the Alps with 2,000 other Jews to Entracque; narrowly escaping German capture; living with a journalist in Turin; staying with a fascist student; hiding in a farmer's field; and returning to liberated France. She recalls reunion with her brother; discovering the fate of her husband, son, and mother; her second marriage and residence in London; and emigration to America in 1959.
