Abstract

Videotape testimony of Felix F., who was born in Warsaw, Poland. He recalls his father's desire for him to enter the family business; apprenticing to a Yiddish theater group; German invasion; forced labor carrying stones; fleeing to Bia?ystok; performing with a theater group which developed Yiddish dance; an unsuccessful attempt to return to Warsaw; an invitation to perform in Moscow from Solomon Mikhoels; meeting other prominent Jews while performing in Moscow, Leningrad, and Kiev; arrival in Odesa on June 20, 1941; German invasion; evacuation to Ashkhabad via Baku; delivering food and clothes to Polish citizens in Siberia as the Polish government-in-exile representative; working with the Polish embassy in Kui?byshev (now Samara); fleeing to Ashkhabad after the break in Polish-Soviet relations in 1942; working as a dancer; traveling to Tashkent to escape KGB recruitment; performing in Yiddish with his wife in Bels, L'viv, and other liberated areas; escaping when Jews were killed crossing to Poland; reunion with his wife's cousin in Krako?w; learning no family members had survived; performing in ?o?dz?; working with hidden children in Warsaw orphanages; organizing a Jewish dance school for children in Wroc?aw; and emigrating with his wife to Paris, then to the United States.
