Alfi N. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of Alfi N., who was born in London, England in 1923. He describes his childhood in an affluent family; joining Habonim when he was eleven; attending technical school; active participation in Hechalutz; working at a kibbutz with young Jewish refugees from Germany and Austria; joining the British military in 1940; fighting throughout Europe; attending a Gordonyah meeting in liberated Brussels; contacts with the Jewish brigade; entering Bergen-Belsen; posing as a Polish soldier in an attempt to locate relatives in other camps; associating himself with the Palmah? to smuggle survivors out of camps for illegal immigration to Palestine; discharge from the British military; arranging housing and food in Marseille for survivors illegally traveling to Palestine; assistance from the Joint; sailing with the Exodus in 1947; emigration to Israel in 1948; building a kibbutz; marriage; and his children's births. Mr. N notes that he views himself as a pioneer, not a hero.
