Renny K. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Renny K., who was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1924. She recounts the emigration of three brothers to the United States before her birth, and a fourth in 1938; German invasion and bombardment; smuggling food into the Warsaw ghetto; marriage; escaping to Radomsko with her husband; her son's birth; taking him to her husband's sister in Staszo?w; obtaining false papers as a non-Jew from her brother-in-law; working as a maid in Warsaw; after a year, leaving to see her son; not being able to find him (she thinks Poles surrendered him to the Germans and he was sent to Auschwitz); quitting her job due to fears of exposure; joining Jewish partisans near Ma?kinia; and returning to participate in the Warsaw ghetto uprising. Mrs K. remembers escaping through the sewers; working as a non-Jew; liberation by Soviet troops; contacting her brother in Chicago from Czechoslovakia; learning her husband perished in Auschwitz; living in a displaced persons camp in Germany for a year; and emigration to the United States. She discusses traveling to Poland and Israel looking for her child (she cannot be sure about his death); remarriage to an American; and the births of three children.
