Morris K. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Morris K., who was born in Pruz?h?any, Poland (presently Belarus) in approximately 1921 to an orthodox, middle class family with five children. In addition to information included in a subsequently recorded testimony (HVT-232), Mr. K. recounts attending cheder and yeshiva; antisemitic harassment before the war; his father's death in the Pruz?h?any ghetto; deportation to Auschwitz/Birkenau; remaining with his brothers; his brothers' transfer to another work kommando (they both died a few weeks later); working with a cousin in a leather factory; hospitalization after Allied bombings (he lost an eye); "stealing" shoes from the factory to trade for food; slave labor in Melk; his cousin's death two days before liberation; traveling to Linz, Salzburg, Bolzano, and Verona; preparing for emigration to Palestine; living in Bari displaced persons camp; emigration to the United States via Venezuela and Cuba to join relatives; attending a survivor gathering in Jerusalem; and contact with an Ebensee liberator. Mr. K. mentions suffering from nightmares; and not sharing his experiences with others, including his children, until after becoming ill. He shows photographs.
