Frank S. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Frank S., who was born in Boryslav, Poland in 1916. Mr. S. recalls his childhood in L?vov; his Polish and Jewish identities; emigration of one brother to Palestine and another to New York; anti-Semitic incidents; his medical studies in Italy, France and Belgium; and return to Poland in the summer of 1939 due to his Polish patriotism. He discusses Soviet occupation; leading Polish student resisters; German occupation; mass murders and deportations; moving to the Warsaw ghetto with his parents, brother and sister-in-law; deteriorating conditions; extreme hunger; and deportation to Treblinka, where his parents and sister-in-law were killed. He describes escape with his brother from Treblinka to Stoczek ?ukowski, then Warsaw; obtaining false papers; conducting black market business; attempts to aid other Jews; and his arrest, torture, and deportation to Auschwitz. Mr. S. relates conditions in Auschwitz; meeting Greek Jews; working in the hospital where he encountered Dr. Friedrich Entress; working in Pszczyna; and liberation January 18, 1945 by Russians. He describes postwar experiences in Italy; organizing groups to emigrate to Palestine; reunion with his brother, who committed suicide shortly thereafter; his marriage; and the birth of his daughter Aurora. Both Mrs. S. and Aurora participate in this exceptionally insightful and detailed testimony.
