Daisy M. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Daisy M., who was born in Zagreb, Yugoslavia in 1938. She recounts illegally crossing the Italian border in 1941 with her parents, an aunt, and two cousins; living in Montecatini for almost a year; leaving illegally in September 1943 after hearing of deportations; partisans hiding them in a village outside Florence for two months; being hidden elsewhere after Germans neared; farmers bringing them food; warnings of German patrols during which they hid in a pit and mountain caves; liberation by South African troops; returning to the village outside Florence; her father's tuberculosis; the Joint placing him in sanitariums, one in Merano; his death in 1948; moving to Florence; a grandmother who survived Theresienstadt joining them; her sister's marriage; obtaining emigration documents from a paternal uncle in the United States,; living in displaced persons camps; and emigration in 1951 via Germany. Ms. M. discusses terrible fears while hiding; visits to some of her rescuers; gratitude to those who risked their lives to save her family; and involvement in civil rights movements due to her experiences.
