Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Łodzi, Poland, Sygn.166. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in 2015.

Scope and Content

Correspondence, reports and other documents relating to granting of Polish citizenship, passport matters, religious matters, establishing cemeteries, Jewish religious community of Łódź, some hundreds of associations or federations or other Jewish organizations from Łódź and its entire province (mainly of mutual help, education and sport), as well as physicians’ personal files and from the Department of Social and Political Issues, Voivod’s reports of 1926-1939, which constitute documentation of the social and political life of the entire region of Łódź, including Polish-Jewish relations during the pre-war period.

System of Arrangement

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved on the digital images. The original records are incomplete, whole missing files are from the Welfare and Industrial Development Departments. Files of the General Department, Military and Health are preserved in parts. The most numerous preserved files are from the Social-Political Department. Selected records are arranged in three series: 1. Records of the General Department; 2. Jewish organizations and their activities; 3. Jewish medical personnel.
