Acquisition
Source of acquisition is the Yivo Institute for Jewish Research (YIVO), RG-116, France II. Records are of mixed provenance and consist of miscellaneous and fragmentary documents donated by individuals and organizations. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from YIVO via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Dec. 2014.
Scope and Content
The collection relates to the situation of the Jews in France during German occupation. The collection pertains number of subjects including: anti-Jewish legislation enacted by the Vichy regime, general situation of the Jews in France, deportations, situation in the internment and concentration camps, religious, cultural and everyday life in the camps, the resistance movement, protests against anti-Jewish persecution, clandestine press, legal press, identification cards including the production of false identification documents as part of the resistance movement.

Arranged in 11 series: 1. Anti-Jewish Legislation and Propaganda (Folder 1.1- 9); 2. Reports and correspondence on general situation of Jews in France and on deportations in various localities (Folder 10- 27.2); 3. Correspondence with Internees in Camp La Lande and Pithiviers. Dec. 1941-Sep.1942 (Folder 28.1- 28.22). Correspondence is organized alphabetically; 4. Cultural, Religious and Everyday Life in the Camps (Folder 29.1-Folder 31); 5. Deportations and Evacuations of Jews in Various Localities (Folder 32-37); Series 6: Protests, Resistance Activities, Clandestine Press (Folder 39.1-60); 7: Legal Press (Folder 61-66); 8: Organizations (Folder 67-76); 9: Identification Cards and other Personal Documents (Folder 77.1-81); 10: German Military Activities in France Folder 82- 84); 11. Miscellaneous (Folder 85). The various series may have overlapping subject matter.
