Biographical History
The Supreme National Tribunal (Najwyższy Trybunał Narodowy, NTN) was a war crimes tribunal active in Poland from 1946 to 1948. The Tribunal's aims and purpose were defined by the State National Council in the Decrees of 22 January and 17 October 1946 and 11 April 1947. The new law was based on the earlier Decree of 31 August 1944 (Sierpniówka) issued by the new Polish pro-Soviet government, with jurisdiction over Nazi criminals and traitors to the Polish nation. The tribunal presided over seven high-profile cases (Total of 49 individuals).

Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the Instytut Pamięci Narodowej-Komisja Ścigania Zbrodni przeciwko Narodowi Polskiemu (IPN), Poland, Sygn.196. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in 2014.
Scope and Content
This collection contains selected records relating to the general organization of the Supreme National Tribunal (NTN), including are lists of completed cases, official correspondence of the NTN Secretariat, reports, minutes, and the logbook of correspondence.

Arranged in ten series: 1. Personal and organizational files of the Supreme National Tribunal (NTN), 1947-1950; 2. List of positions in NTN, and a list completed cases, 1947-1948; 3. Miscellaneous correspondence, 1947-1953; 4. Wages and food allotment for the commission members; 5. Minutes, 1947-1951; 6. Personal files of the Secretariat, 1946-1947; 7. Documents related to preparation of trials, documents from the City Hall Toruń and statistics of Nazi victims in the region of Chojnice, 1946-1948; 8. Miscellaneous records, 1947-1955: Report of the Polish Military Mission, Jan. 1947; Report of Gen. von dem Bach as a witness on the Fischer trial; the list of judges and jurors; 9. Logbook of the NTN correspondence, 1947-1953. Records are arranged in the original order of their acquisition from the source archive. The museum has acquired only selected records from Institute of National Remembrance (Instytut Pamięci Narodowej-Komisja Ścigania Zbrodni przeciwko Narodowi Polskiemu, or IPN).
