Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Częstochowie, Poland, Sygn. 318. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in 2014.

Scope and Content

This collection contains selected files from the County administration of Częstochowa from 1945-1950, including the town of Częstochowa, as well as towns and rural communes incorporated in the County of Częstochowa, a part of the Province of Kielce. Selected files contain such materials as: situational reports (1946-1947), correspondence concerning people of other ethnic origins, matters of citizenship, information about graveyards (1946), registration of artisans, wartime graves, lists of civilians murdered, arrested and sent from the county to forced labor during the German occupation, as well as official correspondence of 1947-1949 concerning German extermination policy made by Herbert Boettcher, the chief officer of SS and police in the District of Radom.

System of Arrangement

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved on the microfilm reels. Arranged in six series: 1. Situational reports, 1946-1947; 2. Correspondence relating to citizenship and ethnic origins of people, 1946; 3. Registers of graveyards and artisans, 1946-1950; 4. Diaries, testimonies and correspondence related to Polish victims of WWII, 1946-1950; 5. Correspondence related to graveyards of Polish and Jewish people in Częstochowa region, 1946-1950; 6. Correspondence related to German crimes against Polish and Jewish people (extermination of civilians in Olsztyn surroundings, Częstochowa region), 1947-1949.
