Biographical History

Hulda Cassel (1878-1945) was born Hulda Jarzembreck on March 25, 1878 in Witków, near Poznań. She lived in Wałcz (Deutsch Krone) on the eve of World War II. She was deported from Berlin to Theresienstadt on September 21, 1942, was relocated to Switzerland in February 1945, and reportedly died in December 1945.

Donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2014 by Margot Pins Kestenbaum, granddaughter of Hulda Cassel.

Scope and Content

Contains five letters written by Holocaust survivor Hulda Cassel after her liberation from Theresienstadt. She wrote the letters from a refugee camp in Switzerland to her family in Manila between July and December 1945.
