Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Żydowski Instytut Historyczny im. Emanuela Ringelbluma (ŻIH), Sygn. 303/XIX. In 1950 the Centralny Komitet Żydów w Polsce (CKŻP) in Poland was liquidated and its archives were transferred to the ŻIH. This collection is a substitute of the collection acquired in the Musuem in 2005, RG-15.105M. Due of the re-arrangement of all files in the ŻIH, a new set of microfilms were sent to the Museum. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Dec. 2013.

Scope and Content

Documents of “Landsmanschaften,” organizations of Polish Jews from various regions, collected by the Central Committee of Jews in Poland (CKŻP), Department of Associations of Compatriots, in post-war Poland. Includes correspondence with foreign charitable institutions and banks about aid to the Jews in Poland, questionnaires, requests for assistance, bulletins and newspapers, notes, speeches, minutes, periodic reports of “Landmannschaften,” name lists and name indexes. Collection includes address books of the "Landsmanschaft” in the US, Argentina, Brazil, Canada.

System of Arrangement

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved on the microfilm reels. Arranged in five series: 1. Organization files of the Head Office, CKŻP. Department of Associations of Compatriots; 2. Ordinances of the Department staff; 3. Foreign Aid Documents; 4. Files of the Provincial and District Committees; 5. Files of the CKŻP. Department of Associations of Compatriots - individual geographical places with attached name lists and other documents. Files of series five are arranged in chronological order; the name lists, reports and protocols are located at the beginning of the series.
