Biographical History

Foundation Polsko-Niemieckie Pojednanie (FPNP) was established on November 27, 1991 per initiative of the government of the Republic of Poland. The Foundation collected approximately one million applications submitted by individuals, who sought compensation for their forced labor for Third Reich during the German occupation of Poland. These applications usually quote detailed information about condition of work and indicate geographical locations, and also are supported by testimonies of witnesses, original photographs and documents.

Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Fundacja Polsko-Niemieckie Pojednanie (FPNP, Foundation for Polish-German Reconciliation).The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Dec. 2013.

Scope and Content

Collection of testimonies submitted for a contest "Przymusowa Praca na Terenie III Rzeszy" (Forced labor in the Third Reich). The contest was organized in Poland in 1965 by the weekly "Zielony Sztandar", the publishing house Ludowa Spółdzielnia Wydawnicza , and the Główna Komisja do Badania Zbrodni Hitlerowskich w Polsce (Main Commission for Investigation of Nazi Crimes). 334 testimonies were accepted for the contest but only 125 were preserved (winning testimonies are missing, except a testimony of Jan Uskwarek).
