Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Arhiv Republike Slovenije (Archives of the Republic of Slovenia); Records: SI AS 1760.The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection from the Arhiv Republike Slovenije via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project in Feb. 2021.

Scope and Content

Selected records on activities of the office of the Higher SS and Police Leader in the Operational Zone of the Adriatic Littoral (Operationszone Adriatisches Küstenland, OZAK), a district of Nazi Germany created in 1943 after Italian capitulation following the Allied invasion of Italy. Includes a fragmentary list of local residents detailed by German police. The area of the OZAK with its capital in Trieste comprised parts of the territories of present-day Italy, Slovenia, and parts of Croatia (Rijeka region). Odilo Globocnik served as Higher SS and Police Leader of this district in 1943-1945 and in this capacity oversaw all major activities of the local SS and Police, including administration of the concentration camps, deportations of the local population, and anti-partisan warfare.

Arranged in four groups: 1. Records of Higher SS and Police Leader in the Operational Zone of the Adriatic Littoral; 2. Records related to the activities of Commander of the Security Police (Befehlshaber SiPo and des SD); 3. Documentation od SS Standarte Kurt Eggers, SS propaganda unit in Adria region (Kdo Adria); 4. Fragmentary documentation pertaining to the activities of various police, SS units, and commandos operated in the OZAK district in 1943-1945.
