Biographical History

From 1938 to 1939, William (Bill) F. Hayden studied German at the university in Frankfurt, Germany, and earned a Master's degree. Following the completion of his academic program, he toured the country. While in Munich, Germany, he met Marie Gräfin von Geldern-Egmond, and they married in May 1939. They returned to the United States in 1939. Bill and Marie had a daughter, Margaret.

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2003 by Margaret A. Hayden.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of newspapers, a poster/newspaper insert, and seven stamps with a portrait of Adolf Hitler issued in Nazi Germany in 1938-1939. Collected by William (Bill) F. Hayden (donor's father) while he studied German in Frankfurt, Germany. Upon completion of his studeis, he returned to the United States in 1939.
