Acquisition
Lori and Harold Kaplan worked under the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) team at the American Joined Distribution Committee. Mr. Harold Kaplan was a director for the AJDC in 1947. The album with 24 photographs was given to him in the summer of 1948, when Mr. Harold Kaplan was ready to leave Stuttgart. In the fall of 1947 Mrs. Lori W. Kaplan was assigned to the Children's Home in Esslingen near Stuttgart. Children with various illnesses were sent there for recuperation before they could emigrate with their families. She also visited the vacation home in Lindenfels. Mrs. Lori W. Kapalan donated photographs taken at this time. The photographer in unknown.
Scope and Content
Contains three albums with approximately 80 photographs relating to the Jewish Regional Committee of the American Joint Distribution Committee, 1947-1948 in Stuttgart (Germany); the Displaced Persons camp in Wetzlar,1946-1947; the Children's Home in Esslingen, near Stuttgart, 1947-1948; and the Lindenfels vacation camp, 1948.
