Biographical History

Dr. Chari graduated from dental school in Frankfurt in December 1950 and immigrated to the U.S. in October 1951. Piotr Chari, his father, was killed by the Germans in October 1939. His grandparents, Rafal and Fruma Grabowiecki survived the Łódź ghetto and Auschwitz.

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2007 by Dr. Anatol Chari.

Scope and Content

Collection of photographs relating to donor's life in Łódź, Poland before the war; his experiences in the Łódź ghetto, including an image of forced laborers at the leather and saddle-making workshop; deportation to and imprisonment in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Gross-Rosen, Wustergiersdorf and Bergen-Belsen.
