United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Jan T. Gross

Donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2012 by Professor Jan Gross.

Scope and Content

Contains a group portrait photograph of the Gross family during a summer trip to Zakopane, Poland, dated c. 1935. Seated from left are Adolf Gross (donor's paternal grandfather) a member of the Austrian Parliament from 1907-1914; Augusta Gross (donor's paternal grandmother) who perished in the Ravensbrück concentration camp; Max Gross (donor's paternal uncle) who survived in hiding. In the back row on the left is Dr. Ludwig Gross, who reached the US in 1940 and became a well known oncologist and Zygmunt Gross (donor's father) a lawyer and activist in the Polish Socialist Party [PPS], who survived on false papers in Warsaw with the help of PPS.
