Acquisition
Halina Diller Gartenberg sent her memoir to the Registry of Holocaust Survivors in Oct. 1994. The Registry transferred it to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives in Sept. 1997.
Scope and Content
Contains donor's handwritten memoir in which she describes pre-World War II life in Lʹviv, Ukraine, (a.k.a. Lʹvov or Lwów, Poland); conditions in the Lʹviv ghetto; the deaths of her parents and brother in Janowska concentration camp; her survival in hiding first with a Catholic family and later with relatives; her postwar return to Poland; and her emigration to England in 1946 and to the United States in 1954.
