Acquisition

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from Halina Gartenberg via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Photo Archives in Sept. 1997.

Scope and Content

Collection contents include two black and white photographs of the donor's grandparents, circa 1928, in Kraków, Poland; a memoir entitled "The Brand's of Krakow" which describes Gartenberg's grandmother's apartment and Gartenberg's relationship with her grandmother; a memoir entitled "Schtetl sic Brzozów near Sanok, Poland" describes Gartenberg's relationship with her grandfather and the town of Brzozów; and an announcement from the Jewish Forum Foundation in Poland regarding Jewish ancestry. Gartenberg's grandparents were killed by the Nazis in 1942.
