Scope and Content

Collection of documents, correspondence, and a family book [Stambuch] illustrating Max and Sophie Rosenstein and their children Ernst, Hans, and Gerhard who immigrated to the Netherlands from Bensheim, Germany. Included in the collection are documents surrounding Ernst, who fled to Palestine in the 1930s and then was killed in Action while a soldier for the British. Also included are materials illustrating the experiences of Max, Sophie and Gerhard who were deported to Theresienstadt camp in the Czech Republic. Max and Gerhard were then deported to Auschwitz concentration camp and its subcamp Blechammer, and survived. Sophie was liberated from Theresienstadt. Hans was deported to Auschwitz in July 1942. A death certificate indicates he died August 30, 1942.
