Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Instytut Pamięci Narodowej-Komisja Ścigania Zbrodni przeciwko Narodowi Polskiemu. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Jan. 2020. This is a cooperative project based on the agreement between USHMM and Yad Vashem, Israel.

Scope and Content

Reports, correspondence, hearings of witnesses regarding the action of the Polish underground in Warsaw, materials about the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 - various information, studies, accounts, notes, list of executions, situational sketches and maps, list of commanders and military units; account of German crimes committed in September 1939; investigation materials against Erich von dem Bach, Heinz Reinefarth, Otto Geibel and other German commanders suppressing the Warsaw Uprising; study on the Chełmno (Kulmhof) extermination camp; materials on the "Gęsiówka" and Pawiak prisons in Warsaw; questioning of witnesses in the case of KL Gross-Rosen, camp Luckenwalde, KL Majdanek, KL Neuengamme, KL Auschwitz, KL Flossenburg, KL Stutthof, KL Orangeburg, KL Ravensbrück, stalag No. 333 for Soviet prisoners of war in Ostrówek, oflag Woldenberg (Dobiegniewo), camp in Pomiechówek and others. Includes also testimonies and other materials about the ghetto in Warsaw and Vilnius, extermination of Jews in Zamość and in ghettos near Zamość; round-ups of Poles for forced labor in the Reich, German crimes against civilians committed in Pruszków, Sękocin, Legionowo, Budzyń Mały, Międzborów, Podkowa, Gucin, Przyrów, Częstochowa, Rogowo, Rypin, Skarżysko and Radom; and records on crimes committed at the headquarters of the Warsaw Gestapo on Aleja Szucha and investigation files on war criminals.
