Krupp Company Meeting - December 1943
Scope and Content
Recording of the meeting of Krupp company supervisory board on December 15, 1943, when Alfried Krupp became the sole proprietor of the enterprise. The disc labels include the date December 15, 1943 and "I Krupp 39. Aufsichtsratsitzung" and "II Krupp 39. Aufsichtsratsitzuug." This recording was found as a space filler in a crate containing the collection of audio recordings of the International Military Tribunal in the Peace Palace in The Hague and was digitized as part of the USHMM and Mémorial de la Shoah cooperative project. It is not a part of the official Archives of the Trial. While preparing for the Nuremberg Trial, the prosecutor made what appears to be a significant error and put on the list of defendants the father, Gustav Krupp, instead of Alfried. When they realized that they not only indicted the wrong person but also that Gustav was probably less responsible for war crimes (and also sick and unfit to stand the trial), they wanted to replace Gustav with Alfried. Jackson in particular pushed very hard for it almost to the beginning of the trial. The judges did not allow it. It is likely that this recording of the meeting was part of evidence gathered for this purpose, probably in order to convince the Tribunal.
