Biographical History

Romanian composer Anatol Vieru was a survivor of the Iasi ghetto.

Scope and Content

Two performances of "Memorial" Op. 118 by Anatol Vieru (1926-1998). Vieru composed "Memorial" in 1990 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Iasi pogrom of June 1941. 1) 0:00-16:32 by the Orchestra del Studio Radio-Bucharest; conductor: Ludovic Bacs. 2) 16:54-end by the Israel Sinfonietta Beersheba; conductor: Mendi Rodan (also a survivor of the Iasi ghetto). Places, dates and venues of performances unknown.
