Biographical History
The Landrat Office of Łódź functioned from October 1939 to January 1945. It was connected by a personal union with the function of the party leader to the Łódź region (Kreisleiter der NSDAP). He was subject to all administration authorities, and head of the German national list.

Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Łodzi, Poland, Sygn. 2122. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in June 2018. This is a cooperative project based on the agreement between USHMM and Yad Vashem, Israel.
Scope and Content
The collection contains: announcements and orders of superior authorities, personal files of employees, reports on the escape of Poles from works and prosecution of fugitives, information about deceased Poles in concentration camps, population traffic statistics, lists of taken over Polish and Jewish property by communes, requests of Poles for return of property, taking over church property and general matters of the Civil Registry Office, rules and regulations regarding entries and granting DVL groups, statistics according to the assigned groups, minutes of management meetings, issuing certificates to ethnic groups not belonging to the Polish nation (Russians, Ukrainians and Czechs), applications for citizenship of the Third Reich.

Arranged in eleven series: 1. Announcements of the military authorities; 2. Lists of members of the board and personnel staff; 3. Personal files, 1940-1944 (Organization is alphabetical); 4. Lists of Polish and German employees; 5. Poles fleeing from the forced labor works in the Third Reich; 6. The register of Poles who died in the concentration camps; 7. Records concerning the acquisition of Polish and Jewish property by Germans, 1939-1940; 8. Statistics of populations by nationalities; 9. Matters of Polish-German marriages; 10. Applications for the German National List (Volksdeutsche); 11. Denunciations on Poles for their anti-German actions.
