Archives were created by the President of the Jewish Community of Kavala, Victor Venouziou. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archival Programs in 2013. Survey and acquisition of this collection was supported by the Rothschild Foundation Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Scope and Content
Archives collected by the President of the Jewish Community of Kavala, Victor Venouziou. Contain a collection of photographs of Jewish old gravestones, an alphabetical guide to gravestones with personal data about persons who were buried in Kavala (Excel database), and a historical essay about burial places for Jews in Kavala.
System of Arrangement
Arranged in four series: 1. Albums with photographs (organized alphabetically by personal names); 2. Alphabetical guide to gravestones (Excel database); 3. Essay of the history of Jewish Community in Kavala by Victor Venouziou, and his portrait photograph.; 4. A notarial deed as a proof of deposit to a notary of a CD with the photo album of tombs of the Jewish cemetery of the Jewish Community of Kavala by Victor Venouziou in order to get copyright on this material.
