Jewish Congregations in Pitești and Botoşani, Romania collection

Contains about 730 documents, letters and other paper items, handwritten and printed, concerning Jewish congregations in the towns of Pitești and Botoşani. Pitești, Botoşani and Bucharest, dated 1910s to 1940s (most are from 1920s-30s). The collection includes some 650 items from Pitești, among them: letter on behalf of the "Union of Jewish Congregations of the Old Kingdom" (Uniunea Comunitatilor Evreesti Din Vechiul Regat) to the congregation of Pitești; some 30 letters and booklets on behalf of "Union of Romanian Jews" (Uniunea Evreilor Pământeni); receipt booklet for charity donations, ink-stamped by the Jewish congregation in Pitești; broadside from December 1941, forbidding Jews to go out of their homes (printed on behalf of the Pitești municipality); several receipts (among them receipts of typographers, furniture stores, carpentry, firewood and other craftsmen); payment orders; financial documents; correspondence with craftsmen, merchants and institutions directors; and ephemera. Also includes about 80 items from Botoşani, among them: two calendars for the years 1929-30 and 1941-42 (Yiddish); three wall notices with lists of candidates for the elections to the congregation management; seven certificates of death; letters, receipts and other items.

The items arrived arranged in five binders (four with items from Pitești, and one with items from Botoşani).
