Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Warszawie, Poland, Sygn. 486/II. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in December 2017.

Scope and Content

Selected reports by Kreishauptmann, Sonderdienstkommando, and gendarmerie, orders concerning police hours, identity and cards (Kennkarte), as well as records relating to administrative borders, propaganda, changes of names of towns and streets, appointments of mayors, heads of communes and villages, name lists of employees of offices, confiscation and housing assignments, matters of organization, maintenance, training and duties of the Polish Police, matters of confiscated properties including those relating to buildings in the Warsaw ghetto, confiscation of Jewish assets, as well as cases of prisoners of war and forced laborers, both Poles and Jews.

Arranged in six series: 1. Der Kreishauptmann, Sonderdienst and gendarmerie: Reports, 1939-1944; 2. Office of the Interior: Reports, registers, posters and correspondence of the Kommander des Sonderdienstes; 3. Office of the Affairs of the Population and Social Care; 4. Office of the Housing Affairs: Confiscation of Jewish property; 5. The Labor Office: Transports of Poles for forced labor; 6. Administration of the Municipal Association Construction and Planning Department: Plans of Warsaw ghetto, reports and correpondence regarding Jewish properties in the region, 1939-1941. Note. Missing files: 4, 65, 136, 174, 1170, 1873, 2041, and 4877.
