Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the National Archives of Netherlands [Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)], Archival Number: 2.04.58. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project Division in December 2017.

Scope and Content

Records of the Bureau General Secretariat and Compatibility, the Bureau Armwezen/Vluchtelingen and the refugee camps Westerbork, the Lloyd-hotel (later Oostelijke Handelskade) in Amsterdam, the quarantine station Beneden-Heyplaat in Rotterdam and the Koninginnehoofd refugee camp in Rotterdam. The collection consists of records relating to financial and personnel matter, the construction and the layout of the camps. There are also weekly reports and strength records of camp residents, personal cards, sightings etc., and records relating to the Committee of Jewish Refugees, concerning the medical treatment of refugees residing in the Netherlands, including Jews, and other documents (correspondence, minutes).

System of Arrangement

Arranged in three subject series: 1. Financial matters; 2. Personnel affairs; 3. Completed tasks: "General", "Central Commission on the refugee issue", "Committees", "Refugee camps" and "Refugees." The section "Refugees" distinguished by two groups of refugees: Individuals cases (alphabetical order) and families. The documents containing several personal names are arranged chronologically. Generally, most of documents are organized in chronological order, but some number of documents are organized alphabetically, e.g. the documents concerning the assessment of the monthly applications for discharge by refugee camps are not organized chronologically, but alphabetically by place names.
